Mike Rugg was an active member of the St. Paul Curling Club his entire life. In 1958 Mike started the Jr. Curling Program. This was a program dedicated to young kids at the club to give them a time and a program that would teach them to curl with kids their own age. In the first years of the program there were around 35 kids who participated. Through Mike’s efforts that program grew to over 100 kids. The age range has grown to encompass kids between 7 and 20. Mike ran the program for over 30 years and there are many people in the club today who got their start in this program. Today the program is as strong as ever and continues to foster curling in kids of all ages who are able to get a rock down the ice.
Mikes dedication to Jr. curling is the reason this bonspiel is around and in honor of Mike this bonspiel is dedicated to the Jr. curling program. All proceeds from this event are donated to the program. So far we have managed to donate over $10,000 to this program and the kids it services.
