Here is the next edition of USCA Tapas for your information and sharing with your membership. Have a good weekend. Rick
What happened in the previous two weeks:
Inside the Curling World• Registration is now open for the USA Curling Members’ Assembly, set for Oct. 12-14 in Albany, N.Y. • Donna Purkey has passed away after losing her battle with cancer. Donna was a USWCA past president, won bronze for USA twice in the Senior Women’s World Curling Championships (2002 and ’07), and has many other accolades both as a competitor and builder in curling. • Patrick MacDonald has been nominated by the WCF for a World Anti-Doping Commission Athlete’s Commission vacancy. MacDonald also serves on the WCF Athletes Commission. Communications/PR• Sky Italia is planning on televising coverage of Curling Night in America. • Check out the Atlanta Falcons’ touchdown celebration imitating curling. • Watch 2018 Olympic gold medalist Matt Hamilton try to navigate the Total Knockout Course on CBS. Grants/Sponsorship/Revenue Development• We are honored to welcome the newest members of The Granite Society at the Bedrock level: Coco and Ben Wellington, and Jamie Hutchinson and Paul Sofuolis. • Not sure about taking part in the Hawaii curling experience yet? Maybe this special Hawaiian-themed invitation from Olympic gold medalists Tyler George and Joe Polo will help you make up your mind. • Sponsorship prospecting packages have been sent to key executives at nine spirit/brewing brands as part of an effort I am working on with 21 Marketing. Competitive Programs• The World Curling Tour has announced final Order of Merit changes. • The U.S. Olympic Training Site agreement with Fogerty Arena in Blaine, Minn., is not being renewed, and will expire Oct. 1. National Training Site discussions are currently underway with the Chaska Curling Center in Chaska, Minn.
Events/Sport Education• Registration closes today for the USCA Ice Tech Course taking place Sept. 8 in Beaverton, Ore. • We had a marketing call with Curling Canada and Reno Tahoe Winter Games Coalition today regarding the 2019 WFG Continental Cup of Curling. Just over 1,000 all-event passes have been sold to date, which is behind the previous three Cups held in Las Vegas.
